dc.description.abstractPartial enclosures are widely used to reduce noise radiation while keeping ventilation, lighting and easy access through openings at the same time. However, because of the complexity of the sound field around partial sound barriers, no method has been reported on how to design them to achieve the best noise reduction performance. This paper uses numerical simulations to study the properties and performance of partial enclosures. A case study on a simplified model consisting of several separate acoustic panels surrounding the sound source is carried out and some general rules are found which might be useful for optimizing the design. Experiments in the anechoic chamber are carried out to support simulation results.en_US
